Licensing Requirements:
1. City of Boone Licenses and Fees are for a two year period. Licenses shall expire on December 31, of even numbered years.
2. Surety bonds are no longer required for master tradesmen. In their place, certificates of insurance shall be required to be on file with the following limits:
-General Liability - $500,000
-Personal Injury - $500,000/Person - $1,000,000/Accident
-Property Damage - $100,000
Said policy shall hold harmless the City of Boone or have the City as a named insured, for any liability or damage arising from the licensee's failure to comply with the current applicable code requirements.
3. The City of Boone now offers the Experior (formerly Block & Assoc.) exam only, for the licnsing of electricians and plumbers.
4. Licensed journeymen and master electricians are now required to complete an eight hour continuing education course every three years on the most current electrical code update. Tradesman are required to complete four years of apprenticeship prior to being licensed as a journeyman electrician or plumber. Tradesman are required to complete three years of apprenticeship prior to being licensed as a journeyman mechanical installer.
Examination Fee:
1. $30.00 plus license fee if passed nd licensed.

-Master License - $60.00
-Journeyman License - $20.00 (3 years experience)
-Inactive Plumbing Fee - $20.00
Mechanical License
-Master License - $60.00
-Journeyman License - $20.00 (3years experience)
-Inactive Mechanical Fee - $20.00
Electrican License
-Restricted License - $10.00
-Master License - $100.00 (5 years total experience (3+2)
-Journeyman License - $40.00 (4 years experience)
-Inactive Electrical License Fee - $30.00
PROOF OF INSURANCE:
Reciprocities: (Plbg., Htg., Elec.) Ames, fort Dodge, Marshalltown. Willing to consider other cities with similar codes and licensing procedures.
Examination Dates: All testing is done through Experior at sites throughout the state. Mechanical test is given in the Building Official's Office, as needed.
